Downtown Banff with Cascade Mountain. Black & White Darkroom Silver Gelatin Print on Glossy Fiber Paper. 8x10” inches.

$40.00

Silver gelatin is a historical black and white photographic process that was invited in the 1870s and became a popular way to create high gloss prints in the 1930s. A suspension of silver salts in gelatin is coated onto a resin coated paper which creates a light sensitive surface for an image to be printed from a film enlarger in the darkroom. The paper then get ran through its chemistry to develop the light printed image projected from the enlarger. After the paper is ran through the chemistry, the photograph will appear and will be washed to make the paper free of any remaining chemistry. The print is then left to dry, and will be flattened in a heat press or be ready as is, depending on the type of resin coated paper used.
